I will be teaching how to create
icons and cursors with a freeware program.
Tools needed, a computer, IconArt
(a free program) and a free dingbat font.
tutorial links will be on this
page
IconArt
I would like to
Thank the folks at ConWare for giving a freeware version.
Many folks
would never experience the joy of creating their own if it were not for freeware
makers.
Thank You
... ConWare
You will need the freeware program,
To Download IconArt Click Here which takes you to
the ConWare site...
you will find the download link at the
bottom of the page.
Once the file
is downloaded, Scan it with your anti virus program before installing it.
This is a good habit.
Install the
program. When finished, close it all. Then re-open it before
starting. (I had a problem using it without first closing it and reopening
it, my icon did not show up after I saved it. But have had great luck
since.)
IF, your program does not
work...
You will need Runtime 6 files, if you do not
have them they are free at Microsoft Here
You will need a dingbat font for the first
lesson.
Details under DAFONT.COM below.
These Tutorials
are specified for a freeware program called IconArt. With IconArt you will
be able to create icons to use instead of the regular computer icons. The
yellow folders you see in your computer to click open are icons. Imagine
creating your very own personalized icon for your personal or special
folder.
With this
program I will also teach you how to create a cursor to use on your computer and
we will even learn how to create animated cursors.
(cursors are the pointers you see when you
move your mouse to select an object or folder)
You won't have
to be an artistic to create an icon. Dingbat fonts work just as well
and give you a head start on a subject to create.
If you enjoy pixel painting, you may enjoy
creating icons and cursors as well.
Dingbat Fonts
and Links
Note
If you are using
windows be sure to download the font for Windows and not for Mac. You want
to download the ttf (ttf= true type font) files (they may be zipped)
Anything you download from the web Scan it with your Anti Virus
Program.
Click the link above dafont.com. When
the page opens view the list Holidays at the top. Click Christmas in that
list.
Download 4yeoxmas. Note some of these
fonts are free, freeware and some are shareware. I only download
whats free or freeware. Note to only download the one for you computer be
it PC (windows based) or Mac. Note there are seven pages of Christmas ding
fonts. Have fun collecting some.
That should be enough
to give you the dingbat addiction lol.

Installing Fonts
After you have downloaded a font it most
likely is a zipped compressed file. Create a folder and save several
of them in the folder. (These are also great for creating something
to color or decorate for other uses in your graphic programs.)
Right Click the Folder and choose to scan it
with your anti virus program. If you saved only one to your desktop right
click it and choose to scan it with your anti virus program.
You have two choices. If you want to
install the fonts thats great. If you do not want to install the fonts and
simply use them on an individual basis thats fine to.
